The Art Of J
“It is important to note that I am, first and foremost, a warrior.“
J is a local artist and illustrator with a unique perspective shaped by his experiences with severe ADHD. While he may not consider himself brilliant, his creativity shines through in his diverse artistic endeavors.
J’s journey as an artist began at a young age. At eight years old, he discovered his talent for drawing caricatures. This early passion has led him on a lifelong exploration of the artistic world.
After graduating from Monmouth Academy in 1997, J moved to Lewiston, Maine. For over two decades, he worked in retail before making a significant career change. With the support of his wife, Alicia, J decided to pursue his artistic dreams full-time.
Now in his second year as a career artist, J keeps his creative calendar full. During the summer months, he can often be found drawing caricatures at conventions, fairs, festivals, and private events. Between these events and during the off-season, J dedicates his time to a variety of artistic projects. He creates illustration commissions, works on a graphic novel, brings cryptid puppets to life, sculpts miniature wargames terrain, and is even teaching himself the art of tattooing.
J’s ADHD undoubtedly influences his creative process. While it may present challenges, it also fuels his unique perspective and endless curiosity. His work is a testament to his dedication, passion, and ability to overcome obstacles.
